We’re In This Together

We’re In This Together Because of the fluid nature of the Covid-19 Global Pandemic situation, we at Captus Systems feel it important to update you on the status of our operations, & what we are doing in response to the outbreak. Captus Systems remains fully operational in all aspects, including design, engineering, technical support - & where we are still able - installations (under special circumstances). We are all taking extra precautionary measures & doing our very best to keep our Captus Systems’ Team, Partners, Suppliers, Clients & the wider community - as safe & healthy as possible. The official rules for on-site work are unique to the different cities, states countries, & even sometimes, by buildings. Where we have the opportunity & have determined that it is safe for our employees, contractors, partners and clients, we may be able to continue with some AV site work. If you do have a project in-mind, now would be the perfect time to engage Captus Systems. We can assist your organization to be ready when we all return to the state of business as usual. Keeping that in mind, when the Captus Team does visit a project site during this unprecedented time, we are requiring each of our Team Members - included but not are not limited to employees, partners, & contractors - to follow the published CDC guidelines and local & state rules as well. At a minimum, these include being extra-cautious & using common-sense, & being aware that our actions & the actions of the people around us have consequences. Since this is an ever-evolving situation, please click on the CDC website link below for updates: CDC WEBSITE LINK When scheduled to be at a Client’s Site, ALL Captus Systems Team Members, Partners, Subs, & Suppliers are required to fill-out a “Covid-19 Exposure” form & return it to our Operations Manager. We will make sure not to allow ANY of our personnel to enter a premises if they are not able to answer “NO” to ALL of the questions on the form. FYI – below are the guidelines that our Team, Partners, Subs, & Suppliers are required to follow, in order to stay on the job & keep everyone HEALTHY & SAFE: - Wash your hands often with soap & water. The water does not actually have to be hot for this method to be effective, but you must use plenty of soap – for at least 20 seconds – as the soap is what breaks-down the viability of the virus itself - When soap & water are not available, use hand sanitizer - If you need to sneeze or cough, please do so into your elbow if you don’t have a tissue readily available - Dispose of tissues, napkins, wipes properly - Do not shake hands with other personnel on the site, & remember to stick to the “Stay Six-Feet-Apart” rule around anyone with whom you come in contact - If you are sick at all – STAY HOME & keep us posted of your progress - If you test positively for Coronavirus, please take whatever measures your physician deems necessary - & keep us posted on your progress Remember - we are in this TOGETHER - & we thank everyone with whom we work for their support during this situation. Captus Systems will continue to monitor all incoming news & advice from the CDC related to the health of our Employees, Partners, Subs, Suppliers, Clients, & the Wider Community. And of course, we will be here for you when we all come out on the other side! We wish you all continued good health…please stay SAFE! Yeah. TOGETHER, We’ve Got This!!!

Distant Socializing: The Importance of Staying Connected
Distant Socializing: The Importance of Staying Connected

As humans, our social bonds are so important to our overall well-being. Even during the time of the earliest homo sapiens, our social groups helped to form us individually & as communities. 50,000 years ago there were 50 people in our tribe - which multiplied to 200,000 in kingdoms - to the billions with whom we now share experiences via technology. It is of the utmost importance as a society, for us to build & maintain our social connections - even at times when it appears to be more difficult. So let’s flip things around: While complying with the need for “Social Distancing,” let’s also consider how to best do “Distant Socializing.” And in these modern times, it’s easier than ever before! Today’s collaboration technology helps us to reach-out beyond the physical limitations of geography. With it, we can stay connected to one-another - whether it be via Social Media, Video Conferencing, Texting, E-mailing, or Teleconferencing. With today’s advanced tech tools, we can share experiences like watching movies, listening to music, streaming TV shows, or gaming - even if we’re not in the same room or venue. At Captus Systems, we enable our clients to stay connected through our expert knowledge of advanced collaboration technologies. We may not be the ones making the movies or TV shows - but our work supports those who do. We may not be the ones healing cancer patients - but our work supports those who do. We may not actually build, own, or manage corporate real estate - but our work supports the ones who do…& so on. Connecting people is what Captus Systems is all about, & society’s social & professional connections are at the very foundation of our humanity. Even though our “normal” is a bit different now than what it was just a few short weeks ago, our priorities & the need to reach-out to one-another have not changed - even in times of “Social Distancing.” So let’s do the best “Distant Socializing” we can! Captus Systems will help you maintain your focus on keeping those vital connections, & are happy to help in any way that we can. Yeah. Together, We’ve Got This!

The Luck of the Irish - and A-V
The Luck of the Irish - and A-V

The Luck of the Irish - and A-V “I find the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have.” Thomas Jefferson St. Patrick’s Day 2020 is upon us, & people of all backgrounds & cultures are once again proud to proclaim themselves “Irish for a day.” Along with all the green revelry associated with this holiday, it also brings LUCK to mind. Although the expression “The Luck of the Irish” was originally not meant as a flattering one when it was first uttered back in the latter half of the 19th century, it means only good things in modern times. In Gaelic, the phrase “Go n-eirí an t-ádh leat” is one of the many ways of wishing someone ‘good luck’ - with its literal meaning being, ‘That luck may rise with you!’ And speaking of luck - it seems that a good measure of it has been following the Audio-Visual industry for the past couple of years, as the increasing demand for tech solutions among both commercial & residential users has consistently trended upward. And Captus Systems is here to help spread “Audio-Visual Luck” to you & your organization! Over the past decade, that which has defined the “meeting experience” has changed dramatically in order to fit today’s competitive business model - along with its economical, ecological, & technological requirements. And in today’s uncertain times, collaboration is taking-on a whole new form. Gone are the large gatherings of yesteryear when one presenter took the helm while all participants sat attentively within the same space. The modern meeting consists of many participants – all contributing in some way or another – coming together from many different locations. BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) & BYOM (Bring Your Own Meeting) have become the new buzzwords for collaboration, & video conferencing & telecommuting are fast becoming the standard protocols of today. Whether it’s for large, traditional boardrooms or smaller huddle spaces, Captus Systems is proud to offer the very best in AV Tools to its customers from leading manufacturers in the AV sector. Companies like LG & Planar – offer cutting-edge display screen technology that helps to facilitate the very best in collaboration productivity. From video displays, to control hardware, to interconnects, interfaces, & infrastructure – the tools of the trade from the AV industry make ANYTHING possible for today’s meeting spaces! For example, ceiling mics are highly desirable apparatus for any modern collaboration space, & they’ve come a long way, baby! Shure & ClearOne are among the top manufacturers who offer cutting-edge audio devices. And - with Cloud-based platforms like Starleaf, Cisco Webex, & Zoom - the need for meeting participants to fly thousands of miles to “be in the room” is no longer necessary. With more & more organizations making use of tele-collaborating, carbon footprints are being slashed, & that has great ecological benefits. The term “face-to-face” has truly taken-on a whole new meaning...Close Encounters of a Brand-New Kind! Even though there’s not the usual parade-like fanfare taking place this year because of the current public health crisis, it’s still St. Patrick’s Day - & we hope you’re able to enjoy yourselves, no matter how you choose to celebrate! So…“Sláinte!” (Cheers) to you on St. Patrick’s Day 2020 - & beyond! May the road always rise-up to meet you, & may the wind ever be at your back. Yeah. We’ve Got This!

Huddle Spaces…Perfect for This Moment in Time
Huddle Spaces…Perfect for This Moment in Time

Huddle Spaces…Perfect for This Moment in Time "New technology is not about adding more; it's about needing less." - Quote from Crestron Electronics With everything that’s happening in these uncertain times, organizations & businesses alike are looking for the best solutions to keep their people healthy & safe. The term “social distancing” has come to the forefront, but it doesn’t just refer to "socializing" - it refers to the safe distances we need to keep between each other in general, during the newly categorized Coronavirus “Global Pandemic.” For the purpose of keeping their people as safe & healthy as possible, many companies are choosing to ask them to work remotely - hoping that the less staff members working together in the same space, the better it will be for everyone. For this reason, large corporate meetings held within the same physical space - like boardrooms or expansive conference rooms - are being put on hold for now. With that said though, some collaboration does need to still need to happen in order for businesses to continue to do what they need, to disseminate information that’s vital to their missions. That begs the question - if folks are not able to currently meet in the usual ways, what alternatives exist to get presentations & important information out to the people who need to see & hear it? Two words - “Huddle Spaces.” Also known as Huddle Rooms - they are (as defined by Cisco) “Small, casual spaces equipped with collaboration technology, where a limited number of people can meet, (usually up to six), on a scheduled or ad-hoc basis.” These smaller, specialized spaces can fully accommodate the collaboration technology necessary to “meet” with employees working from home, so organizations can move forward with important presentations. If key personnel do still need to report to work at their brick-and-mortar offices, Huddle Spaces allow them to have much smaller gatherings when necessary, while providing them the opportunity to direct collaborations from headquarters to remote team members. Additionally, Huddle Rooms have a number of other advantages - like lower facilities, electronics, & equipment costs - which combined, lead to an overall smaller carbon footprint for any organization. These economized meeting spaces are perfect for modern office floor plans, which are tending more & more towards flexible work areas that can be reconfigured instead of the traditional stationary office/cubicle models of the recent past. The use of Huddle Spaces optimizes real estate, making work-area flow much more functional. As for the technology necessary to make for Huddle Spaces functional, there exist many AV Tech manufacturers who are able to accommodate the growing need for employees to work remotely. One of them is Logitech, whose AV Tools help to video-enable today’s changing work requirements by providing excellent collaboration & productivity solutions. Customers & employees alike are depending heavily on communication platforms in order to stay connected & keep business moving forward! Also important to the success of the current work environment are Cloud-platform applications. Zoom, StarLeaf, Cisco Webex, Microsoft Teams, BlueJeans, & many others, are all fine solutions for getting-on with the business of business. The current commercial Audio-Visual customer is specifically looking for the following: • The ability to Share Content Wirelessly • Ease-of-use for making calls or joining meetings - without the hassle of having to schedule an organization’s large meeting space • A solution that can be deployed at a smaller scale, which is easy to install & manage • The ability to set-up meetings at a moment’s notice • Lower collaboration costs In general, the deployment of Huddle Spaces & associated collaboration technology is creating a whole new category of opportunities for organizations & AV integrators alike. According to a “State of Enterprise Meeting Rooms” report by Wainhouse Research, the desire for Huddle Rooms is opening-up the potential for the creation of 30 – 50M new Huddle Spaces over the next few years. The ratio of Huddle Room development is now 25:1 – as opposed to the need for larger “traditional” conference rooms, which is now 800:1. And that is quite a telling statistic! If your organization is looking to create a collaboration space befitting today's specialized demands, Captus Systems is the perfect fit for the task. We have the expertise to design, engineer, build, & install meeting spaces of any size. Yeah. We’ve Got This!

Captus Case Studies
Captus Case Studies

Captus Case Studies “Engineering is the closest thing to magic that exists in the world.” - Elon Musk From nationally recognized leading Healthcare Facilities - to Global Entertainment Brands - to World-Class Financial Institutions - to Institutes of Higher Learning - & many, many others…Captus Systems is proud to be involved in a variety of interesting Audio-Visual projects. From initial concept, to design, to engineering, to building, installation, & service… we do it ALL - & we do it BRILLIANTLY! Below you’ll find 3 examples of how our Captus Team created innovative, viable solutions for the following clients: World-Renowned Leading Cancer Center Hundreds of rooms are deployed over many buildings & campuses in the NY Tri-State Area. When a new standard is developed for the AV technology, it means that the support teams have to add new knowledge to the support process, & inevitably, they’ll have to retrain users on new systems. The Captus Systems Solution Captus Systems designed & set-up a working demonstration system, using an owner-provided Cisco WebEx Teams system and display. Additionally, we worked with both the architect & the content consultant, to deliver a 24’ x 8’ video wall behind a “Luminoso” Welcome Wall in the lobby of this brand-new, State of the Art, World-Renowned Cancer Facility. Captus’ cutting-edge thinking provided exactly what this client was looking-for – a simplified & people-friendly AV system & process for all. International NY-Based Non-Profit Media Company This leading media company was challenged with providing optimal video conference experiences using PC-based systems. These challenges kept the organization from moving forward with requested room upgrades. The Captus Systems Solution By working with the organization’s Senior IT Management, Captus Systems developed a standard that was first presented as a fully working demonstration system, & then deployed throughout. This system included a single Dante-enabled tabletop microphone, tabletop controller with GUI, two speakers, new 4K display, & wireless presentation tool that supports 60fps. The result…everyone was happy - (including the Grouch). Global Maker and Distributor of Branded Spirits The Marketing Department of this spirits enterprise required a display in the reception area that was big enough for staff members to see as they walked by the screen. They wanted passers-by to be able to view their Social Media “LIVE FEEDS” from all of their platforms…Twitter, FaceBook, etc. The Captus Systems Solution Captus Systems designed a custom powder-coated, free-standing frame base for a 5’ x 13’ Video Wall - with the final overall size being 13’ wide x 8’ tall. The feature that truly made the difference was a little-known aspect of the video wall itself: The ability to bring sources up to the display without the limit of a screen bezel. This feature saved over $50K of added cost, over a more traditional approach. Captus’ signature “thinking outside of the box” approach empowered us to create an end-result that went beyond this client’s expectations. Bottom Line: There is no AV challenge too big (or too small) for our Team of experts. If you’ve got a technical dilemma, Captus Systems will solve it for you - while at the same time creating the most innovative & contemporary Audio-Visual Integration possible. We make sure that all of our clients’ AV Tech stands-out far above the rest! Exceptional AUDIO quality, crystal-clear VIDEO, PEOPLE-FRIENDLY outcomes, unparalleled PROJECT MANAGEMENT, & extraordinary CUSTOMER SERVICE…that’s our mission, & our promise. Yeah. We’ve got this!

The ABCs of A-V FAQs
The ABCs of A-V FAQs

The ABCs of A-V FAQs Every industry has its own version of FAQs - & the Audio-Visual biz is no exception. Whether your organization is considering building a new – or upgrading a dated - Conference Room, Huddle Space, or Auditorium AV System – we’re sure you’ve got questions…& Captus Systems has answers! FAQs to Consider When Planning Your Next AV Collaboration Space Project What is Audio-Visual Integration? Audio Visual Integration is the combining & incorporating of the following: Engineering & design (understanding of functionality), equipment & components (hardware), project management & installation (professional services), & software & processes - to deliver solutions which meet the specific requirements (& expectations) of the client. It’s a catch-all phrase that’s commonly understood to mean that when the integration is done well, the people using the system don’t even think about the technology. What is a Huddle Room or Space? A Huddle Room or Huddle Space is a small meeting area, typically seating 3-6 people. These spaces don’t always have technology but when they do, it’s typically a display with teleconferencing & collaboration tools. Huddle Spaces are essentially places (which may or may not have a table) for individuals to drop-in ad-hoc, & meet. Generally, the quantity of Huddle Spaces an organization has depends on the organization’s size or needs. It may have several Huddle Rooms in addition to a large, conventional Conference Room. These areas are used to present & share information, either from a desktop computer, hand-held device, or laptop – with the capability of putting it up on a screen if there’s tech in the room. Today there are generally more Huddle Spaces in organizations than large, traditional conference rooms. What is BYOD? BYOD – “Bring Your Own Device” – is a practice that has been around for years, which allows employees to bring & use their own hand-held devices - such as laptops, smartphones, iPads, etc. - for work collaboration purposes. Even though these individuals may be together in the same room, they’re all collaborating from their individual apparatus. What is BYOM? The new phrase, BYOM – “Bring Your Own Meeting,” is a natural extension of BYOD, as it allows people to use the conferencing platform with which they are most comfortable, from their own device (i.e. Zoom, Cisco Webex, MS Teams, StarLeaf, etc.). Their device is then connected to the room resources (microphones, speakers, video display, cameras, etc.), allowing for the professional collaboration quality that the room system has to offer. This is a game changer! What is a Virtual Meeting Room (VMR)? A VMR is a location built from software, where people meet. A VMR is sometimes initiated from an actual conference room - but doesn’t necessarily have to be. The benefits of the VMR are many, including bringing people together from various geographical locations so that collaboration can happen in real-time, regardless of the limitations of a physical space. It is essentially another term for a web-based video call. (VMRs are also known as “Virtual Meeting Spaces.”) Will Captus Systems work within my budget? YES! The design & engineering teams at Captus Systems are expert at finding the right solutions matched to our client’s requirements. We know the best & most cost-effective ways to meet our clients’ expectations on functionality & budget. We’re in a very special place in the history of AV & Technology, which allows us to deliver almost any solution to meet the needs of our clients with ANY budget. And at Captus Systems, we ALWAYS help our clients to find the right answer within their means. How is Captus Systems different from other AV Integration Firms? Our Team. Our Process. Our Clients. Our Approach. Our Promise. We are through-&-through an AV Company: Design, Engineering, Installation, Programming, & On-Going Support. But things are changing, because much of the equipment that Captus Systems specifies in our designs looks very similar to that found in the IT closet. “It looks like a camera, but it has embedded AI. It looks and operates like a microphone, but it’s connected to the network and gets it power and connectivity via PoE.” Captus Systems approaches Audio-Visual projects like the IT projects they are - & that requires a unique skill-set, which is what Captus Systems has. And that expertise allows us to approach everything we do from an IT Core. For more detailed information about what makes Captus Systems’ different, please click here: https://www.captussystems.com/blog/building-bridges%E2%80%A6the-captus-systems-way How far in advance of my project should your services be booked? This of course, is loaded question – & a hard one to answer without more information…but we’ll try: We love to be brought in “early,” to help to ensure that the necessary requirements are included. However, we know that “early” is relative & not always possible. So the best first step is to call us. You will find that a conversation with one of our consultants, engineers, or project managers will provide you with the information you’ll need to make informed decisions. That being said though, we are also called-upon to fix something that is not working well or is broken. So if it’s a service-call you need, then we’re available right away. We will NEVER leave a person or an organization in need. How long does an Audio-Visual project take from concept to completion? Wow! This question - like the one above - is another tough one to answer without more information: There are many factors that go into delivering a successful AV project: Design, budget, planning, coordination, & communication. But it all starts with putting together the right team. Is the project new construction or is it retro-fit? Is there an architect and/or GC involved? Has the floor plan been finalized? Have the standards been developed? Zoom or WebEx or MS Teams or a Hybrid? Discovery is critical, & Captus Systems knows the right questions to ask so success can be achieved. We are very well-versed in all types of AV & Communications systems…& we have the experience & the team that’s worked with many of the major architectural & general contractor firms, to deliver on-time, & on-budget. We ALWAYS meet the expectations of all concerned. But again - generally speaking, the specification development can take a few days to a few weeks, depending on the size of the project, & input from others on the project team. Also, once the specification is finalized & Captus Systems is given the go-ahead, we can deliver within a few weeks to a few months, depending on the lead times of equipment - & the schedules of the other trades on the project. What’s important to remember is that the Audio-Visual Projects of today are different from those from even just a few years ago. Successfully designed & delivered Audio-Visual projects require an AV partner that can interface with the Architectural & Design Teams, Facilities & IT, & can deliver with challenging construction schedules. Captus Systems does that each & EVERY time! Bottom Line: Captus Systems enables our clients to EASILY operate & support the technology we design & build. Yeah. We’ve Got This!

Superbowl & SUPER Screens
Superbowl & SUPER Screens

Super Bowl 54 has come & gone…how did your team do? Hope you didn’t over-do with chicken wings & chili! This annual behemoth event conjures-up things very specific to the match-up, including outrageous commercials, a half-time show, & of course - VERY IMPRESSIVE video screens! As we are all quite aware, video monitor technology has had meteoric improvement since the early days of Superbowl #1 in 1967 in Los Angeles - & continues to improve with each passing year. From the big, bulky “furniture-esque” cathode-ray-tubed sets of the 60s & 70s - to today’s slender, modern, wall-mounted LCD & LED screens - we have become truly spoiled in our viewing habits…both at home & at the office. According to Planar - one of the AV Industry’s leading Video display manufacturers - “Direct view LED video wall technology is becoming increasingly popular, due to its ability to deliver seamless images, scalability to any size or shape, and excellent optimal characteristics that make video wall content look great from any angle.” Modern video technology has not only made it possible for us to feel like we’re sitting right there at the stadium for the big game - but at the office, it has also brought us closer to our colleagues & clients, no matter where they are in the world. The meeting rooms of today - whether they be large conference rooms or smaller huddle spaces - have become standard fare for most corporate enterprises…especially those who are building new collaboration solutions. Captus Systems makes it our main mission to stay on top of the latest video technology so we can pass-along the best there is to offer to our clients. According to InfoComm - the Audio-Visual industry’s largest annual technology conference – “When we look back at the 2019 AV market in general and InfoComm 2019 in particular, it could be that we’ll all walk away saying, ‘That was the year of LED.’” And speaking of the best in video screen tech, here are just a few of the recommendations of note from industry experts, as was reported by our friends at Commercial Integrator: Barco Barco offers a complete range of LED display technology for television studios, control rooms, boardrooms, professional AV installations, & other venues.
